This past weekend marked my third year at the Heard Museum Market, and it was just as special as the first. When I set out on this journey as an artist, one of my biggest goals was to participate in both the Heard Museum and Santa Fe Indian Market. Being part of a community filled with so much talent, history, and dedication to keeping tradition alive is something I’m incredibly grateful for.
For those unfamiliar, Indian Markets hosted by museums and art organizations require artists to apply and go through a juried selection process. Every year, over 1,000 artists apply but only about half are accepted, while the rest are waitlisted. With so much talent in the mix, I don’t know how the panel makes these tough decisions!
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from applying to these markets is to push past fear and put my work out there. Like Aaliyah said, “If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again.” That mindset has been key for me, and I’m so glad I’ve kept at it.
To everyone who stopped by my booth…thank you! Your support, conversations, and energy made this experience even more meaningful. I can’t wait to share what’s next.
Until next time,
Neffie
